I am currently an Assistant Professor of Sexuality Studies at San Francisco State University. I received my Ph.D. in Social and Personality Psychology from the Graduate Center of The City University of New York

My research focuses on how stigma, prejudice, and discrimination constitute minority stress and, as a result, affect the health and well-being of marginalized individuals. Most recently, I have conducted multiple research projects examining same-sex couples' experiences of stigmatization and its impact on the quality of their relationships and mental health.

My current efforts involve developing new methodological approaches to understanding how marginalized individuals make sense of, negotiate, and cope with minority stress.

I also study how people psychologically construct meanings of intimacy within long-term romantic relationships and the resulting implications for couples’ relational well-being.

More information on my research and teaching can be found via the links above.

PLEASE NOTE: In January 2012, I will be moving from SFSU to Columbia University.  I will be joining the faculty in the Mailman School of Public Health in The Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health.
